cloud was proud of herself. she had come so far from the twoleg place, she sat in the spot where she had been found by thunderclan. although she had promised herself to only be a visitor, she felt as though she was becoming a member with blossoming friendships. smokestorm, the cat who had so quickly claimed her mind and heart and yet remained unaware. he seemed to always be on her mind, it was so unusual to her. for once she had forgotten of finding her father in favour of smokestorm, his grey fur that was soft against her, his dark fur the contrasted greatly against her snow white fur.
he fit in well by her side, though she refused to admit it to him, constantly throwing him looks of 'i'm sick of you and everything you have to say.' when she really wished she could just tell him, 'i'm sick of you and everything you have to say, but please, don't stop talking.'
every word he said was so perfectly him, she was amazed every day by the crap that he managed to come up with and although she pretended to hate it with a playful bat of her paw against the back of his head, she was eternally waiting for the next smokestorm-ism. she could never roll her eyes enough at his words, she would never be able to laugh and reply with her own unique response, cursed to a life of silence which she was only now growing to dislike. her meeting the grey warrior of thunderclan had changed her outlook on her muteness. though he seemed to enjoy the fact that she couldn't respond to his constant yapping, she wished he could hear her thoughts so he could understand not only why she was here in thunderclan but why she chose him as her constant companion in the clan.
she had chosen to remove herself from the camp and return to where he found her, where she first found thunderclan. it seemed so long ago, frightened and throwing a fish at the first cat she met. she was told the clan cats were vicious and yet smokestorm and his apprentice were almost comical. so far from what cloud had come to expect. the white she cat smiled fondly as she remembered the greenleaf warmth on her back from when she first arrived, now a light dusting of snow was slowly coating the grass. something that excited her, she'd be perfect to hunt in this weather, her white fur blending in perfectly unlike in greenleaf where she felt like the obnoxiously bright cat in the dark green forest, she didn't fit in. but now she did. a low purr rumbled in her throat, about the only sound she could make.
her ears perked as she padded to the river, where the fish was caught. the young loner purred, her mind wandering to the thought of 'imagine if riverclan had caught me.' she had come to learn so much of the clans from smokestorm and his apprentices'.
she rolled her eyes at the memory of him giving her her "warrior name", that the gods he didn't have that kind of power in the clan. she wasn't sure she'd stick around if she truly because, cloudfart, warrior of thunderclan. oh yeah, her father would be so proud of that one should she find him.
clouds task to find her father was slowly growing to be forgotten by her, and what was strange to her was the lack of guilt she felt. after all, it could be a search with no end; like her mother had told her. but without the search she never would have met smokestorm. though the day he returned from the border freshly cleaned and smelling like nothing made her head tilt curiously, the tom always smelt like the thunderclan territory, the undergrowth and flowers. she pushed her mind away and assumed the idiot had walked into fox dung or something and actually bothered to clean himself rather than come running how and roll it into her nest.
she sat, still, looking at the near frozen river with her tail coiled, just enjoying the crisp air and silence as she drifted into the memories thunderclan had gifted her with. she was growing to love her new home.

Smokestorm
Every time he thought about that time spent with Littlepond, it made him purr. He couldn't believe he'd found a she-cat that was perfect for him in every way. Even though it was breaking the warrior code, he wanted to be with her. And the warrior code didn't seem to matter to him as much anymore, now that he had her. She was always on his mind and he'd been wanting to come back to see her again but he didn't want to raise anyone's suspicions, so he'd kept away from the border until today. Today he hoped to see her again. No, he needed to see her again. The only other she-cat he'd ever felt like this before had been Hazelstripe and he knew now that she must be the one. His Littlepond, his little snowflake. Hesighed happily, just thinking about her. His breath fogged up in front of him and he paused, something was nagging at him at the back of his mind. So after a few moments he scented the air and was surprised to smell Cloud's scent. She was headed towards the river. Towards the spot he'd first found her. His stomach clenched tightly. His first thought being Is she leaving? His second thought made his stomach clench even more. Did she see me with Littlepond last time? He figured it was just because it would mean the clan could find out about it, but even when he realized she wouldn't be able to tell anyone, his stomach didn't relax. If anything it might have gotten worse. But she hadn't been treating him any different as of late though. She could have been hiding her feelings from him. Smokestorm shook his head to clear it and leaped forward into a run. He skidded into the clearing, his pale green eyes searched around. It didn't take the tall tom long to find her white pelt. He hurried over to her, worry etched on his face but relief was slowly starting to replace it. "Thank Starclan. I was worried you were leaving." he let out a shaky sigh and sat down next to her and stared at the river in front of them. It was mostly frozen now, but it still brought back the memory of him and Littlepond, which made him relax a little bit. Smokestorm glanced over at Cloud and then back at the river. "Cloud.....I um, have something to get off my chest...." he brought his gaze down to his paws and started fidgeting. "I think I'm in love. She's funny, she gets me, she likes me for me, I can be myself around her, she's beautiful and just overall amazing." He lifted his gaze to look at her and smiled. "I'm in love with Littlepool. I know I'm breaking the warrior code but it feels like it doesn't matter with her. And I feel like I can tell you because you are my best friend in Thunderclan. And I think you are the only one who would understand since you weren't born a clan cat. You were probably raised to follow your heart, not a bunch of rules." He sighed happily and turned to look across the river and into Riverclan's territory. He felt so much better having told her. She really was his best friend, probably the closest friend he's ever had, and he was sure she was the only one he could tell his feelings to. Words || 600 Ooc || A broken-hearted thread. the paw steps behind her caused her to lift her head, her eyes lighting up as she saw the familiar grey figure coming up behind her looking alarmed. the small smile he had earned from her without cloud noticing fell slightly. "thank starclan. i was worried you were leaving." the white head of the beautiful she-cat tilted to the side as her brow furrowed making her look confused. shaking her head softly. she wished she could tell him, how she would never leave him, she would always be by his side. cloud looked at him with fondness, her had grown to become a cat she referred to as 'her idiot.' in her mind, even though he truly wasn't hers. not yet anyway.
when he began to talk of having a secret, hope bloomed in her mind. her heart speeding up with hopeful beats as she looked at him with a gentle smile and hopeful eyes, wide blue and innocent, unaware about what was coming to her. the first few words of how he believed he was in love, her hope bloomed even more. "she's funny, she gets me, she likes me for me, i can be myself around her, she's beautiful and just overall amazing." her heart fell as the pronoun fell from his lips, perhaps it was still her and he was just building up to it. she knew how the grey tom liked to make an event out of everything even if it was something as disgusting as his morning fart. it was already an event. her tail twitched in anticipation until the words;
"i'm in love with littlepool."
she opened her mouth in silent protest, her eyes pleading for him to say its a joke. but he kept talking, about how he was breaking the code, how only she could understand because of how she was raised. but then it hit her, he knew nothing about her and she felt her claws slowly press into the earth as she shut her eyes and dropped her head, begging for the wind to blow him away like he wasn't truly there, just a ghost in front of her playing out her worst nightmare. she wanted to scream, her smokestorm - no, just smokestorm was making a mistake. he's invented a new kind of stupid, a kind where he truly hasn't thought this through kind of stupid. she could beg and plead but he needed to know that he had just forfeited all rights to her heart. she shook her head, she wanted to cry. the pain in her chest was unbearable but she couldn't push him away. she couldn''t hiss and slash at his face, he came to her with information because he trusted her and all she had done was think of herself and how it affected her. his choice, although foolish and likely to end bad, she needed to support him. she needed him to know she cared. she could sacrifice her own emotions for his, that she could do. but she'd be lying if she didn't resent him and littlepond for the pain they were causing her.
like the best friend he had called her, she drew the courage to look up, her eyes faltering as they met his. her legs felt weak beneath her as she nodded slowly. her eyes filled with sorrow, not for him breaking the code. no, her emotions were selfish in her mind. she needed to push herself out of her mind and focus on helping him. alas, her mind was blurred with fear and sadness, the want to run away. she pushed herself, she got to her paws a padded closer to him and sitting beside him. she looked at him and so badly wanted to speak.
"please don't do this."
the only thing she wanted him to hear, for him to understand and all she could do was sit by his side in silence and just look disappointed. she rested her head on his shoulder for probably the last time, her eyes shutting so she could take in his presence and scent before she truly let him go and cross the code and her heart for this riverclan cat. cloud had seen littlepond from across the border, she was beautiful, to think she had thought she'd had a chance with smokestorm was foolish. this was all clouds fault. she was the fool who believed in the impossible. the she-cat didn't deserve her hate, it wasn't her fault, it wasn't smokestorms fault. cloud knew she had brought these emotions on to herself by allowing herself to sway from her mission, to fall for the tom who was merely being nice. she needed to find her father, not fall in love.

Smokestorm
He smiled happily when Cloud nodded and then watched her as she stood up and moved closer to sit next to him. When the white she-cat set her head on his shoulder, he instinctively lowered his shoulder so it would be more comfortable for her. He was so happy to have her in his life. He'd truly never had a best friend like her before. "I'm so glad you understand. And he was, even though he was only seeing what he wanted to from Cloud and not her true feelings. Smokestorm closed his eyes and purred quietly, just taking comfort from her being next to her. "i'm glad we became friends otherwise i never would have been able to tell anyone about this and it would just be bottle up in side. and i'm glad you aren't leaving. when i caught your scent coming this way, i thought you were leaving without saying goodbye and it scared me. i've never had a friend like you before cloud. i will always thank starclan that i found you that day." Oh how he had been scared. So scared. After all, she had come here looking for someone and hadn't found them. They had gotten close but for all he knew she could still just up and walk away at any moment to continue her search, even though he promised to help her. The grey warrior continued to sit there, just taking comfort in Cloud's presence and scent. He didn't know what he'd do if she were to vanish one day. cloud felt her eyes burn with tears she refused to let loose. her heart swelling with sadness, her stomach dropping down to the core of the earth as he accomodated her height. he cared for her, yes, but not like she did for him. she took deep breath; she needed to support him, be there for him. even cloud knew that this wouldn't end well for him, but he would never loose her. he couldn't get rid of her if he tried, if he drowned her right here she'd still stay with him even after her passing. nobody could deny how loyal cloud could be, but her loyalty to smokestorm was unbreakable even when he had caused her so much pain and struggle in her life. she opened her eyes, her soft blue eyes adjusting to the light, if her mother was here she'd only tell her how she knew cloud should never have left her and her siblings; she'd betrayed them by searching for her father and she felt as though her infatuation to smokestorm would betray him too. she needed to step back from him for a while, not that he'd notice with littlepond by his side. he'd probably forget about her without a seconds notice, and that, tore her up inside.
"i'm so happy you understand."
she didn't understand. why not her? what had she done wrong to not earn his love? she felt as though they were getting along so well, the teasing, the constant interactions and him always being my her side. they were practically each others shadows at this point and yet, she wasn't his love. she would never be that. cloud had been cursed to watch him fall in love with another from the sidelines as she kept her feelings in, hiding them because if he knew; how would he react? would he still talk to her? would littlepond tear her apart because of it? she was scared. she didn't want to loose him, no, she couldn't live a life with him hating her, she couldn't leave him and go home or forget about him. not yet anyway, so she kept quiet. offering a shoulder to lean on as he continued.
"i'm glad we became friends otherwise i never would have been able to tell anyone about this and it would just be bottle up in side. and i'm glad you aren't leaving. when i caught your scent coming this way, i thought you were leaving without saying goodbye and it scared me. i've never had a friend like you before cloud. i will always thank starclan that i found you that day."
cloud would also thank her ancestors that he had found her that day, had it been any other cat, hawkstar might not have been swayed so easily into letting her stay. even though smokestorm would never love her as she did him, her time with him was something she treasured. and although she was determined to remain his friend; she wouldn't stick around much longer just to cause herself pain by watching him and littlepond. she needed to find her father.

Smokestorm
Smokestorm tilted his jaw so it leaned against the top of her snowy white head and breathed in her scent. It helped calm him even more and he rubbed his ear against her head, purring. "Thank you for listening even though you probably disapprove." He blinked open his yellow-green eyes and looked down at her, smiling. He was so lucky to have found both Cloud and Littlepond. For once he felt complete, like he could take on anything with his two favorite girls at his side. He purred happily and laid his tail over her shoulders in thanks. "I should get going. I was going to see about meeting Littlepond again today. The steel grey tom slowly got to his paws so as not to jostle Cloud as he moved. He took a few steps away before pausing and turning back towards her with a lopsided, cheeky grin. "We can share some a piece of prey tonight! Your pick! So don't eat without me okay Sweet Pea?" He blinked at her happily and then turned to bound away, heading towards the spot he met Littlepond last time, hoping she'd be there. His heart soared at the thought of having two great she-cat's in his life. The trees blurred past as he followed along the edge of the river, heading towards the stepping stones. He would like to meet her at Sunningrocks but too many cats went there to sunbathe, even during leaf-bare. He just hoped she'd be at the border today and not someone else, or even no one at all. As he got closer to the spot, he slowed down to a trot and then a brisk walk, glancing between his side of the river and Riverclan's side of the river. Words || 300 Ooc || My heart is breaking. And this I think would be a good ending because otherwise I wouldn't know what else to type. ;_; Tagged || Kuwaki

she felt his head press against her, gently rubbing her in a slow nuzzle and she shut her eyes taking the moment in. trying so hard to ignore what he had just told her; then he opened his mouth again and her eyes slowly opened filled with sadness and heartbreak.
"i should get going. i was going to see about meeting littlepond again today."
she opened her mouth to protest before forgetting she couldn't, but also that she shouldn't. she watched him get up as she forced a smile with a small nod of her head that was so obviously strained. he was leaving her for littlepond already, she was being cast aside and although he claimed she was his best friend she felt like a spectator to his life, as though she had never impacted his life.
"we can share some a piece of prey tonight! your pick! so don't eat without me okay sweet pea?"
cloud watched him pad away with a skip in his step, clearly chuffed with himself. all she could think of was where she was going to sleep tonight, she couldn't allow herself to spend time with him when he didn't love her like she loved him. cloud refused to take away his happiness in favour for her own emotions. he loved littlepond, not her and it was time she accepted it and moved on. the white she-cat looked at her reflection, her strength wavering as she met her own eyes; she collapsed to the ground in a huff, burying her head between her paws as her chest shook with silent tears, her ears pressed flat against her head. all she could do was cry.
