The dark colored tom watched from afar. He always watched the she-cat closely. Twitching his whiskers as he watched her bring in no prey…her mentor wondering if she would make a good warrior. He narrowed his eyes ever so slightly as the tom would whisper to the others. She wasn’t a strong hunter and fighting just wasn’t her cup of tea. He furrowed his brow and shook his head. Some apprentices just took longer to bloom than others that was all. Some bloomed quick, and it was usually in one skill over the other…but sometimes it took time. His brother didn’t catch his first mouse until 9 moons old…so what Echopaw was experiencing was acceptable right? He also took into consideration that StarClan was always full of surprises and your path is almost never clear. Despite being a warrior’s apprentice himself….he had ended up a medicine cat.
It was one evening where fatigue had hit him early so he called it a night. It was cooler night, a light breeze tickling his fur. He was glad his den was empty besides him. His clan was healthy he couldn’t complain. He stifled a yawn before circling twice and laying down, his tail tip touching his nose. However despite fatigue he couldn’t find sleep. He opened his one eye, and before him stood a beautiful calico. His demeanor changed instantly as he saw his mother.
“RiverClan in trouble? Here to give me a mysterious message?”
The black tom stood up and put his nose into his mother’s flank. He missed her dearly but knew she was in a much better place. They exchanged greetings before he stepped back, his posture more serious. StarClan cats usually didn’t come just to chat and catch up it was usually of some sort of importance.
“You’ve been watching Echopaw.”
“So I have.... shes a slow bloomer. I watch to make sure there is nothing wrong medically”
“She’s on the wrong path Eveningblaze. Being a warrior is not where she is meant to be and I was more than certain you knew she was something when she was a kit. You need to take her away from the path of a warrior, if it continues it just won’t end well for her.”
Eveningblaze parted his jaw ever so slightly as if he were going to protest and nodded. “I’ll tell Palestar” He watched his mother nod with approval before vanishing ever so slightly. Eveningblaze sighed before letting the sleep hit him. There was always tomorrow.
He had been up very early. As the sun hit the clearing he was exiting from Palestars den. He had told her about the encounter with his mother, and she too had agreed that Echopaws path as a warrior perhaps just wasn’t meant to be. With that being said he went back to his den waiting. As soon as he saw the she-cat his one ear perked.
“Echopaw…come to my den please. We need to talk.”
