NAME: nettlekit - nettlepaw - nettlestep
GENDER: male
AGE: seven moons
CLAN: shadowclan
POSITION: apprentice
SHORT DESCRIPTION: a scrawny ginger tabby with grey eyes.
APPEARANCE:
unfortunately, as the runt of his litter, nettlepaw won't get the chance to be a big tough tomcat like his siblings likely will. though his lineage has a history of bulky muscles and broad shoulders built for power, nettlepaw's growth has been a bit stunted by his sickly youth. he'll always be a bit on the small side, and he fears that he'll be scrawny forever. however, now that he's grown a bit older and no longer seems to spend every other day in the medicine cat's den, he doesn't look like damaged goods anymore. he is definitely a bit damaged though. he was born with a slightly twisted forepaw. it doesn't cause him pain, but does give him a bit of a limp, and becomes stiff in inclement weather. this unfortunate defect also prevents him from climbing. it's not terribly noticeable at first glance, but his limp is pretty obvious.
his coat is sleek and shiny from incessant grooming from his mother, and shows bright ginger swirls and stripes. the color is sunny orange, with dapples of white mostly along his underside, chin, and paws. the length of his plush kitten coat is short- perfect for green leaf.
nettlepaw's face and head are proportionately small, and his features are streamlined and a bit fox-like with his pointed visage. most notable about his face is the splatter of dark muddy freckles over his pink nose and lips. every moon it seems he gains a pawful more. his ears are a bit too large for his head, but as he's still young it's pretty endearing. nettlepaw's eyes are his own favorite feature- he's been told that they're kind and emotive, but he just likes the color. deep grey, although sometimes they seem to be more of an average hazel, he likes when they look grey because it's a unique color to him.
PERSONALITY:
while not necessarily part of his personality, it's important to note that nettlepaw is a very sickly cat. while he no longer runs too much of a risk of flying off to starclan at the first cough (like he did as a kit), he still is usually the first to come down with whatever is around. he hates this about himself, but as the runt his immune system has been compromised and so his parents and siblings are constantly forced to watch him for signs of sickness. see, he likes to ignore this particular trait in himself while trying to keep up with his siblings, and this inability to pace himself accordingly does occasionally come to bite him in the tail.
above all else, nettlepaw is a terribly optimistic young cat. for all that he's been through, he really ought to be a bit more realistic, but in spite of everything he can't help but view the world as a beautiful, sunny paradise. it's really very naive of him. as a feral cat, he needs to come to terms with reality for his own safety, but he can't. even when things are at their worst, he always seems a little too cheerful. maybe it's just a coping mechanism- a way to fight past the world's grimness, but it does sometimes land him in predicaments when it takes the form of denial. no one can blame the little guy for trying to bring a little cheer into the world, though.
knowing that he must work extra hard to accomplish half of what his peers do, nettlepaw is a surprisingly determined young cat. he'll never be as big or as strong as others his age, but that doesn't stop him from trying his best- training hard, studying hard, and paying close attention. practice, practice, practice. shadowclan's success is his ultimate goal, and his determination goes paw-in-paw with his complete loyalty to his clan.
nettlepaw can be a bit needy. as the kit of the litter who was always fawned over for his sickliness, it's not surprising that he may have gotten a bit spoiled for attention. he likes to know that he's doing a good job, and it'll break his little heart if he doesn't get that praise that he needs. it drives him to his goals. it's not that he's an attention hog, he just needs constant support and reassurance to know that he's doing the right thing, and that his existence is worthwhile. it takes a lot of love to accomplish that.
not surprisingly, nettlepaw can be a bit of a nervous wreck. while he always tries to keep his chin up, he knows that failure is a pretty likely option for him most of the time, and his twisted paw makes him even more nervous. nothing devastates him more than messing up in front of others, so it follows that he becomes a bit of a wreck when it comes to performance. socially, he's pretty awkward as well. he finds it difficult to find common ground with others, and tends to come off as a shy youngster most of the time.
HISTORY:
nettlepaw has four siblings- a fairly large litter. his parents are brighteye and faintfur, two well-respected warriors of shadowclan. he was the last born of their litter, and as such is lucky he survived kithood at all. as a runt, he was the one cursed with the twisted paw (thankfully not as serious as first anticipated), and he was the one who was constantly sick. spending the first five or six moons constantly in and out of the medicine cat's den did nothing for his strength or socialization, but did teach him much of herbs, and did create a bond with the medicine cat. not only that, but it taught him that every day is a blessing, and that he's awfully lucky to be alive.
he feared that his apprentice ceremony would be delayed by his health, but fortunately he was well at the time of ceremony, and was able to find a mentor with the rest of his siblings. while the going is slow during training, he's determined to become a warrior with the best of 'em.
