☀ TWIGTAIL ☀
NAME: Twigkit - Twigpaw - Twigtail
GENDER: male
AGE: 86 moons
CLAN: windclan
POSITION: senior warrior
SHORT DESCRIPTION: ginger tabby tuxedo tom with a tail as hard as a twig
APPEARANCE:
When he was born, Twigtail looked like a cream tabby. His main color was extremely light and his stripes looked like the color of wet sand. The white on him blended in with his creamy ginger fur so it wasn't until he was a bit older that his fur color actually started to darken up a bit and the white showed more. It became apparent he was a tuxedo with the white on his muzzle and nose bridge, down his chin to his throat, narrowing out on his chest and then widening back up on his belly and underside. All four paws are also a creamy white color, not quite as bright white as on his chest, but able to blend in a bit more with his pale ginger fur.
Twig is pretty much only classified as a tabby because his tabby stripes are prominent on his forehead, next to his eyes, his front legs, the lower part of his hind legs, and on his tail. On his head, back, and sides, the stripes lightened up till they blended in with his pale ginger fur. His fur is short all around and soft to the touch, even in his old age. His head is rounded and not quite as angular as some other cats.
Due to his Windclan heritage, he is a lithe cat. He's probably about medium in height, not too large and not too short either, though he sometimes does hunch over as he walks because he can feel his legs creaking. He's missing a few claws from fighting and a few of the tougher prey. He's also got a few broken teeth from his fare share of battles but can still give a nasty bite if he needs to. Also from battles, he has a crisscross of scars on his nose, face, and pretty much the rest of his body. He has scars across his left eye from the talons of a bird, making him mostly blind in that eye.
Twigtail also has some Skyclan blood in him and in his younger days, he'd hunt hawks and other birds just as much and as well as he would hunt rabbits. You might think his hunting and fighting days are over with how he walks and with being half-blind, but you'd be surprised when a bird is flying over head and he snatches it out of the air or when a battle comes and he fights just as well as any of the younger cats.
Now, for how he got his name. As a kit, wobbling everywhere as he tried to walk, his tail would be flying everywhere. For some reason his tail wasn't like a soft little kitten's tail that barely hurts, no, when his tail his someone, it stung. It was like getting smacked with a twig! It had taken his parents a while to name him, but that coupled with his coloring gave them the idea of Twigkit. And even as he grew older and could walk better, you had to watch out when he was walking with you or past you, because he liked to swing his tail and it could hurt if it smacked into you. As an apprentice, he'd use it to his advantage while practicing to fight. He'd also use it to smack his friends and then take off running, laughing as they fumed until they started laughing too. Because of his antics all his life, the leader at the time decided to name him Twigtail. He wasn't happy at first and all his friends joked about it, but he finally accepted it and owned the name.
PERSONALITY:
~Playful~
All his life, Twigtail has been playful and rambunctious. He liked to play practical jokes on cats and actually still does. He smacks other cats with his hard tail, puts thorns in bedding, gets other cats into situations then blames everything on them. He just tends to hide it all behind his grouchy facade. He's quite a competitive cat and with the apprentices, he'll take them out and see who can run the fastest and jump the highest, him going first and acting like he can't do anything very well, but then after the apprentices go, he'll blow them away with his skills. Though there have been cats over the years that are better than him, especially with his old age starting to set in. He can't jump as high, can't run as fast, can't fight as well as he used to, but he's still pretty good.
~Grouchy~
Twigtail in camp is grouchy. Going to bed he's grouchy. Eating he's grouchy. He's just such a grouch everywhere. But this is just a face he wears. Underneath, he's really a fun cat to be around. If he's not playing jokes on your or anything like that. But back to his grouchyness. When he's "annoyed" or even actually really annoyed, you have to watch out because he "can't control his tail" and it just flings everywhere and it WILL smack you in the face or upside the head. And he's really all bark and no bite. He will snap at you, act like an angry elder who hates apprentices, and act like his bones are aching, but really it truly is just an act. He's mostly a cat that wouldn't hurt a fly unless it was for the well-being of his clan. He'll act all tough but hardly ever backs it up and instead with take you on an adventure and get you in trouble. (so watch out lol)
~Helpful~
Eh, you can say he's helpful. He's helpful at getting other cats into trouble. Mostly younger cats. He's had to learn things the hard way and wants to help others learn from their mistakes easier than he had. He's just not very good with words, so he puts them or gets them into situations that they can learn from (he really just blames everything on them). But Twigtail doesn't just throw them into the water and expect them to know how to swim, as an example. Well, depending on the cat he might. He's good at seeing where a cat is in life and starts teaching them at different bars. Like for the shy apprentices, he puts them into a small situation with not real big consequences and slowly builds up from there. For more experienced, but still young, warriors, he'll have stepped it up quite a few notches and rather than help them through it like he would a young apprentice, he steps back to see what they will do. And then he helps them by telling them the different ways they could have done it and the different outcomes that would come out of those choices.
~Wise?~
Since he's old, I guess you could say he's wise. He knows more than most, has make more mistakes than most in his clan, but he still does stuff that seems iffy. Though he does have him moments of teaching cats lessons. It's just, those lessons aren't taught through words, but instead with actions. If you know him real well, you would think it's funny when he acts like an elder and tells a story that is supposed to be wise, because really, he's just an old tom with the spirit of a young tom and for some reason it's like he hasn't really matured. Which is why it can be so funny when he acts like an elder because they know it's all an act for the young cats.
~Loyal~
Twig is loyal to his clan. And his friends and family, though there aren't many alive anymore. But it took his father dying to make him realize that he needed to step up and be there for others. So if you become his friend, he'll die for you. Though on the topic of the warrior code, after all his years, he's a bit more lenient about it than others. Eh, so you fell in love with a cat from another clan. So long as you aren't putting your clan in danger, it's okay with him (though he might tell on you 'cause that's what he does). You are half clan or not even clan born? So what? As long as you are serving your clan with every ounce of your being, you are good in his book.
HISTORY:
Twigtail was born at the end of new-leaf with two other siblings, a black and white she-cat named Magpiekit and a brown tabby tom named Sparrowkit. Twig's siblings were named right away from their pelts but his parents were having a hard time agreeing on his name. His father, a brown tom named Otterleap, wanted to keep name him after a bird like the other two kits. His ideas were Hawkkit, Owlkit, or Pheasantkit but Twig's mother didn't want to do any of those names. She was a tortoiseshell she-cat named Speckleheart liked the name Thistlekit or Lightkit for him. They argued several, several sunhighs. And so Twig had been nameless until he started walking. All kits had trouble walking, trouble balancing on their wobbly legs. He seemed to be even worse. His tail was always swinging and flicking and just being everywhere, which made him even more off-balanced. It wasn't until both of his parents got a smack to the face with his tail that they finally agreed on Twigkit. Not only was it because when they got hit with his tail it felt like getting smacked with a twig, but also because he was so much thinner than the other kits, no matter how much Speckleheart fed him. He also got his name because his fur looked like the color of a twig on the bushes on the moor. And so, after being unnamed for a quarter moon less than a full moon, he received the name of Twigkit.
Finally walking still didn't help him out with how much his tail moved. It was almost never still and it always felt so hard. Twigkit actually didn't have much feeling in it. He could really only feel it at it's base so he couldn't really control it to help him with his balance. So, he had to learn how to move it with only a little feeling in it. His mother and father spent many hours each day trying to teach him how to use it. Finally, he learned he just needed to think of what to do.It sticks straight out and the only part that can bend is about a paw or a paw and a half length of it at the base, so he can't curl his tail over his paws, but he can curl it around him so it's not just sticking straight out behind him where others can step or trip on it.
Twigkit was a rambunctious kit. He was always running about, making a path for himself because his clanmates didn't want to be smacked with that tail of his, which tended to swing in rhythm with his steps, though he could move it to the other side or straight up if he wanted, but he found it to be more fun to just let it be. He'd had to learn how to compensate for it's weight so it wouldn't take him off balance since cats use their tail for balance.
Twigkit, Magpiekit, and Sparrowkit were the only kits in the nursery for two moons until another she-cat had her kits. Two toms named Starlingkit and Nightkit. Magpiekit didn't want to hang out with more toms, so she tended to stay with their mother or play with the she-cat apprentices that sometimes stopped by. Sparrowkit wanted to play with them but he was often sick, despite looking more healthy than Twigkit who was always so thin. So, Twigkit befriended the younger toms. Starlingkit always looked up to their leader, a Thornstar at the time, but Twigkit didn't see the appeal. Even at his age it looked like too much work. He wanted to be free to do what he wanted as a warrior. He looked up to the more carefree warriors.
At 6 moons old Twigkit and Magpiekit became apprentices but Sparrowkit was sickly again, this time much worse than the last so he wasn't able to attend the ceremony and receive his apprentice name. Magpiepaw tried to go to see her sickly brother whenever she could but Twigpaw always seemed to busy with his mentor or with his friends to go that often. At 8 moons old, Sparrowkit became an apprentice alongside Starlingkit and Nightkit as he was feeling much better the past moon, but they soon saw that being an apprentice was taking a toll of the young tom's health, even with his mentor trying to go easy with him. At 9 moons old Sparrowkpaw's health just went down hill and continued to deteriorate until he was confined to the medicine cat's den. Twigpaw mostly only visited his brother when his mother made him or when Magpiepaw dragged him with her. He didn't know what all the big fuss was about. His brother was always sick. It was nothing new, and yet everyone seemed to be constantly worried. Twigpaw spent a lot of his time with his apprentice friends, Starling and Night being two of them. Twigpaw was constantly trying to compete to see who was faster, see who could jump higher, who could hunt better, who was the best fighter, and so on and so forth. Both him and Starlingpaw seemed to be good at jumping high, higher than other cats.
All throughout his apprenticeship, Twigpaw would joke around and smack other cats with his tail, making them annoyed enough to chase after him. All he did was laugh as he ran. His friends usually ended up laughing with him after running out their annoyance and anger. He also found he was quite talented at hunting and fighting, especially jumping high to snatch a bird out of the air, but he lacked in planning and tracking, as well as some other things.
Twigpaw's testing came and he thought he would get a warrior name that told of his amazing jumping skills or his fighting abilities and was so proud at his warrior ceremony when he was 13 moons that he was shocked to a standstill and stared incredulously at the leader when she said his name was Twigtail. He fumed for moons, especially when his friends joked about it, but finally he decided it wouldn't change anything to be angry and decided to own up to his name. Let everyone laugh at his name when he was smacking them in the face with his tail!
His sister was made into a warrior a moon after him but she didn't seem to be put out by it, in fact she seemed happy about it. She told him it helped her to know and understand more than she would have if she had been made into a warrior beside him. She was given the name Magpiespirit, for her caring, thoughtfulness, and her amazing way at being able to find a correct path somewhere. Their brother, Sparrowpaw was still confined to the medicine cat's den at 14 moons old, having been living in there for 5 moons. He actually seemed to be getting better. And one day it looked like he was completely fine once more, no longer sick. He moved back into the apprentice's den and was found the next morning in his nest, having passed in his sleep. Everyone was shocked. Their parents and Magpiespirit mourned and grieved so much that Speckleheart became sick with grief and later died from it. Otterleap and Magpiespirit grew closer, grieving together. Twigtail grew apart from his family, have felt blindsided by his brother's death. Sure he had been sick his whole life, but that had been normal. He always fluctuated between being sick and healthy but Twig had never thought his brother would actually die. And the second blow was his mother dying from the pain of loosing her kit. Twigtail had loved his mother dearly, though he had never showed it very much. There was a hole in his heart, put there by his brother and mother. His remaining family tried to talk with him, but he pulled away. He feared losing them so much that he never realized he was losing them by pushing them away.
After those deaths, he mellowed out. He was no longer the rambunctious young warrior everyone knew. Now he was quieter, more thoughtful, and had made himself secluded. He'd pulled away from everyone. His father, his sister, even his friends. But when his father died of old age, it sort of woke him up. He had lost his father by pushing him away but even though he hadn't spoken to him anymore, it still hurt him when his father passed and he realized he needed to be with his family, be with his friends. It was like a haze had been over his eyes but now it was gone and he could see much more clearly now. He noticed things he hadn't noticed before, like the fact that one of his old friends had become leader. (That really shocked him) Ever since his father has died, he's been trying to make everything up to those that were still around.
Twigtail came back into Magpiespirit's life and they leaned on each other to deal with the grief and to make sure the other lived out their lives. Twigtail was involved in a lot of battles, gaining many scars, loosing some claws, and breaking a few teeth. He provided for his clan by hunting rabbits and catching birds, even the ones that hunted them like hawks. One particular hawk didn't want to die easily. As he jumped in the air and snatched his claws on it's wings, it scraped it's talons across the left side of his face, barely scraping his eye. It fought him and took a claw from a paw, but got away. He now has scars across his left eye, making it be mostly closed. It also made his eye go mostly blind. Everything is extremely blurry but he can make out distinct shapes, like a cat or a tree or the edge of the gorge, but he mostly uses his right eye.
He was actually later able to catch that same hawk. He knew it was the same because it's wing had healed around the claw that had gotten stuck in it and he could see it as the hawk flew above him. He felt triumph at catching the predatory bird and killing it, but then thanked Starclan for the food and the fact that it had died rather than him.
When he was around 62 moons old, greencough spread through the clan, killing many, even taking one of Starlingstar's lives. Twigtail had gotten sick, as had his sister, but both had made it, unlike Starling's brother, Nightfire. Twigtail always felt like the other tom might resent him for the fact that he and his sibling lived while Starling had lost a life and his brother. So, for the most part Twigtail has keep his distance from the younger tom, but recently feels that perhaps they should reconnect. They were, for the most part, the only ones left around their age. Magpiespirit had lost her eyesight and had gone to the elder's den when she was 78 moons. Twigtail knew it had been hard for her, as she had often helped show others the way to almost anything. She could see paths that they could lead when no one else could.
His heart broke when his sister died overnight at the age of 85 moons, but knew she was with their parents and Sparrowpaw up in Starclan and that made him feel better.
Twigtail feels it won't be joining them for a while, as he believes Starclan isn't finished with him yet. He still has a lot to do in this life before he can pass, and it might just be to help Starlingstar out, and perhaps lead their clan through some hard times that are sure to be coming, as they always do.
