Gingerstep
Gingerstep sighed, fluffing out her fur to try and warm herself up. It was getting colder, with leaf-bare coming closer and closer. The small sandy cat had ventured out from the camp again, in the search for at least some small morsel of food. She was limping slightly towards her left, favoring her left forepaw, after a horrible incident of stepping on something sharp the other day. Her paw pads felt raw and tired as she walked on, sore after her many circles on the territory since leaf-fall had started. She had a terrible ache on her shoulders that was trying to remind her that she needed some rest, but still the ginger cat trotted on, briskly, ignoring her paining body.
She was going towards the direction of the Shadowclan border again, a memory of the rabbit that she had nearly missed surfacing back onto her mind. The rabbit, if not caught by a Shadowclan warrior, could come back to its burrows at the moors. Her ears were pricked to the smallest of sounds, and her jaws were slightly open to sniff in any stray scents that could have wafted towards her direction.
Gingestep’s belly growled, reminding her that she had forgotten to take on some fresh-kill earlier after slipping out of camp in the morning. She regretted it now. In her opinion, Windclan was always the clan who faces the most trouble in leaf-bare. In leaf-bare, Thunderclan still had their forest animals, Shadowclan still has their frogs and Riverclan could always move onto some land animals, but Windclan’s prey was based on the season, and all the rabbits would be waltzing on towards some other clan territory and leaving the moors. It was the truth that they were all going to starve this leaf-bare.
Her eyes, who in the fatigue and overwhelming exhaustion she was experiencing were duller, the usual tint of green that lined it gone, leaving it a darkish grey color. Things had gotten the turn for the worst when Littleflame the deputy had died. She missed him, although she knew that the both of them never really liked each other and vice versa.
Suddenly, she could sniff it. Rabbit! Her eyes widened, and she automatically felt her stomach rumble with hunger. She saw it, a small white figure in the brown colored moors. It was semi-sized, leaning towards small, but she didn’t care. She started to swiftly approach it, beginning to run to close the distance. It sensed her immediately, beginning to hop into the other direction.
Gingerstep narrowed her eyes, focusing onto the small prey running in front of her. She was closing the distance easily. Even in her exhausted state, she was gaining towards the rabbit. She was not going to focus on anything else, except for the rabbit. Gingerstep gritted her teeth, pushing herself to run faster.
She was close enough to leap. So close. As the rabbit ran over the grey line she knew she should not cross, she ignored it, sprinting across it. Bunching her muscles, she leap, soaring through the air, feeling a deep rooted satisfaction as her claws sunk on the rabbit’s small back. Adrenaline was pulsing inside her, she almost didn’t feel the monster as it slammed right into her, sending her and the rabbit flying back towards her side of the Thunderpath.
She was dimly aware of a kind of throbbing form of pain by her shoulder that rendered her unable to move, (the rabbit.) she thought numbly, before she drifted into unconsciousness. *** Gingerkit grunted, as she felt her brother roll over her, pushing her small body on the ground. “Sunkit, move!” She growled. Having four other siblings was a huge mess in her life. She felt as if her parents had barely knew she was there. The bigger kit grunted, moving off. Gingerkit hated being small. Sure, Cloudkit, who was her fifth sibling, was smaller than her and was the considered problem of the litter, but he died, a moon after he was born. Gingerkit huffed angrily as Sunkit begun to bound out of the nursery, ready to play with the other kits.
She was about to go on and join him when she felt another weight squash her down. This time it was Flosskit. The ginger and white she-kit giggled, as if it was the funniest thing in the world. “Sorry!” She squeaked, before sprinting out of the nursery. Gingerkit quickly pulled herself to her paws and hurried after her siblings. “Wait for me!” She wailed.
*** “Kit!” The apprentice taunted. He was in Shadowclan, and at least twice her size. Gingerpaw felt her fur bristle angrily. “Windclan is so desperate, they’re bringing kits here! Look at her soft kitten paws and that kitten fur.” Now there were at least three Shadowclan apprentices around her, all of them twice her size. Gingerpaw felt the anger welling up inside her. It was her first time in her gathering, and she was just six moons old. “Kit, kit, kit!” They chanted, laughing.
The next thing she knew was her mentor pulling her off him. Gingerpaw was fuming, bits of fur stuck by her claws. Both her brothers, Sunpaw and Windpaw, were watching her, mouths gaping. Many cats were murmuring, watching the apprentice who had tackled another apprentice from another clan. She didn’t join another gathering for quite a while. *** Gingerpaw huffed as she threw down another rabbit. She was twelve moons old, old enough to become a warrior. She was going to be a warrior. She was going to have an apprentice! She remembered the things she wanted flash in front of her. She wanted to be a deputy! She wanted to be the clan leader! She knew that she was going to have to work hard for it. She WILL work hard for it. She was not going to let her Clan down.
Gingerpaw padded into camp, her head held high, a sparkle in her eyes, the sparkle dulling when she spotted her brother. Rabbitpaw was lying in the middle of the camp, dead. A fox, her clanmates were telling her. Her brother was killed by a fox. She remembered dropping her rabbit when her gaze fell upon her other brother Windpaw.
She could see his fur patched up with cobwebs and hear his ragged breathing. He was slashed all over. Gingerpaw could only stand there, dumbstruck as two more of her siblings walked up the path to Starclan. *** “Gingerstep! Sunstreak! Flosstail! Gingerstep! Sunstreak! Flosstail” They chanted, as she slowly went down the rock, her fur fluffed up with pride, along with her remaining brother and sister. A warrior, at last. She felt a purr rumbling down her throat as she surveyed the cats around her. She was one step closer to being Windclan’s deputy! She felt Sunstreak nudge her gently, and could see Flosstail look up, her eyes shining with pride. Gingerstep saw herself gazing up into the sky. Rabbitpaw, Windpaw and Cloudkit. They could have been there with her. But there was nothing she could do about it, could she?
*** Gingerstep was suddenly aware of watching herself through a photograph of memories from a distance away. She saw herself run, hunt and snap at her clan mates. She saw herself distance herself from both her brother and sister to get what she wanted. She saw herself fight. She saw her clan mates beginning to distance themselves from her. She saw herself get hit by the monster. But it was all for the clan, right?
Words: 1247 Notes: So Edda talked to me about this, and we agreed that Gingerstep could be the next deputy for Windclan (she has that motivation and had the ambition ever since she was a kit), but Gingerstep needed a huge character development jump before she could actually be a deputy as she's a very moody little cat at the moment. So this is how the monster plot came in. She won't die, she would just crack her shoulder a bit, break something else too maybe, and would be confined to camp. And this is her canon history. Like, really canon one. I'll change the Adoptable on my page too.

iceclaw // smalltail
iceclaw had been padding silently through shadowclan, his time was almost up as a warrior as he felt his bones creek, his mind torn at the sudden lose of coalpaw. he needed a break; too long had he been cooped up in the medicine cat den and warrior den, bouncing from the two nests as he found himself mentally declining; losing himself to sorrow when he was once such a stoic beast with an impenetrable mind. his tail lashed in frustration - he had grown weak. the scents of pine and his clan were comforting to the grey tom cat and with each step he felt the muscles along his back relax, the aches slowly slipping away in a dull throb that was just about noticeable. pride was never the word iceclaw wanted to use for coalpaw, but now that the black tom was gone he wished he could turn around to see the younger cats gaze, just as cold and stern as his own and mutter something about how the apprentice truly impressed him. alas, the world was not so kind.
his ears perked, he was nearing the thunderpath; each rumble of a monster as it passed vibrating through the ground as iceclaw moved slowly. it was the loud thump. that same noise he heard too many times before. the warrior shut his eyes in hope for whatever got hit to be alive. iceclaw moved silently but swiftly to the border his amber eyes flitting from side to side until he caught sight of the ginger shape, her shoulder in - well, it was in quite a state. he recognised the shape too, gingerstep of shadowclan, young, like coalpaw. iceclaw did something so unlike him as he ran across the thunderpath with a whimper of sadness and concern, the weak cat on the side of the path her eyes shut whilst her shoulder was clearly badly damaged and already swelling. he gingerly placed a paw on her ribcage waiting for the rise, then the fall. the shadowclan cat let out a breath of relief, a breath he didn't realise he was holding as he checked her over.
gently, he nudged her cheek with his nose when he heard paws behind him. "what did you do to her?" the loud hiss erupted from behind iceclaw as he turned with his claws drawn and fangs visible.
"not a thing, can't you tell it's a thunderpath wound from this distance? you're lucky i bothered to check on her" he snapped in return as the she-cat he identified as smalltail padded over, roughly shoving iceclaw out the way with a loud his and snap of her jaws until she was crouched by her clan mate.
"gingerstep, wake up." he could hear her quiet whine of worry as she herself prodded her limp clanmate before turning her cold gaze back to the grey warrior.
"how could you stand by and watch her get hit? you shadowclan cats were always cruel, but this is a new level. not long ago you lost someone to the path too - don't pretend like you don't know what i'm talking about! secrets don't last long in this forest." she snapped her jaws getting closed to his nose as his eyes widened slightly with surprise, only to relax into an angry glare though iceclaw kept his mouth shut this time.
smalltail had been tailing after gingerstep; they had a rivalry in smalltails mind though clearly gingerstep was less than pleased with smalltails outgoing personality and the sheer idea of her own apprentice; sandpaw, being better than her tigerpaw. after all, at least sandpaw could hold a conversation unlike the weak tigerpaw who seemed to follow gingerstep like a lost kit still learning to walk whilst her own apprentice stalked rabbits like a lion and fought with the power of a tiger. it was the tang of blood floating in the wind that made smalltails ears perk - she had been distracted briefly by the rumble of her stomach and want for prey when she lost sight of gingerstep. the blood in the wind returned her concentration and she bounded off in the direction of the thunderpath. her eyes darkened at the very sight of the shadowclan warrior.
now she stood; nose to nose with the grey tom hissing and spitting in his face before turning back to gingerstep and lying beside her, smalltail was too small to even carry her back - she would collapse beneath the ginger cats weight on her back. she shut her eyes with a soft whine, even though gingerstep was breathing fine, smalltail regretted every moment she teased and provoked the older she-cat. iceclaw was soon forgotten by smalltail as she pushed her nose into gingersteps fur, unsure on what to do and how to help her.

Sandpaw
Sandpaw was out and about with her mentor Smalltail. It has been about a moon since Sandpaw started training and with leafbare around the corner the clan needed as many rabbits as they could and with there deputy Littleflame missing the whole clan was worried. But they needed to focus on hunting and were alert for the missing tom as well. Sandpaw was ordered to head in a different direction so they could cover more ground. The sandy colored ginger she-cat move on the moor the wind sliding over her sleek thin fur. The she-cats blue eyes were scanning the area around her the large ears on her head picked up no sounds either. She grumbled slightly and moved down the hill towards the thunderpath.
Tasting the air Sandpaw scented nothing and decided to scan back towards Smalltail maybe if she headed in that direction she would scare the prey right into in mentors sight. Deciding that was a great plan the she-cat headed off traveling towards the direction she had last seen the small black and ginger she-cat head off too. Sandpaw moving forward always kept herself alert. Thats when something totally unexpected happened. On the wind there was a faint scent, and she knew what it was. Shadowclan. There was no mistake about it. She knew that she would have to investigate and find her mentor in the process. Continuing towards the smell she noticed that they were getting closer to the Thunderpath. Sandpaw could feel the hair on her spine rise up slightly with excitement.
Thats when she noticed her mentors scent as well, maybe the she-cat was in trouble! Sandpaw then took off running at full speed and she came over the hill to see Smalltail her mentor spitting at another cat. But there was something else that Sandpaw noticed a limp ginger shape on the ground. She came down the hill with her head high, and thats when she noticed Smalltail who was laying down next to who she recognized to be Gingerstep. Sandpaw looked at her mentor and said, "Should I run back to camp to get some help?"
The young she-cat stood on her toes ready to sprint all the way back to camp.

iceclaw was silent, watching the windclan she-cats like a hawk when another showed its face. an apprentice, iceclaw couldn't help but roll his eyes at her question and snap at that.
"of course you should go get help, go find littleflame or whoever you have in your clan." he snapped across the border with his tail lashing.
this scene was far to familiar to iceclaw and the fact that the apprentice even thought to ask before running off to get help pissed iceclaw off to no end. it was only when smalltail turned with her fangs bared did iceclaw realise he had crossed the line.
"you're still here, concerning yourself with windclans business, you have guts to stay around; i could tear you apart." she hissed with disregard to sandpaw as she stood, her claws slowly falling out from their soft casing. smalltail walked until she was close to him before whipping her four claws across his face with a loud hiss - "leave!"
iceclaw hesitated, feeling the blood well in the small indentations the she-cat had left in his face. he wouldn't win this battle, but he wouldn't take the blame for the ginger warriors own mistake in hunting on the thunderpath like a mousebrain and surely this nub-tailed warrior would be more than eager to push the blame onto him. "no."
smalltail hissed, turning to look at sandpaw. "get mintfeather and starlingstar, be quick about it sandpaw." she mewed softly, her tone taking a complete shift as she addressed her apprentice. gingerstep had always loathed the fact that sandpaw had gone to a gathering before tigerpaw - in fact, gingerstep seemed to loathe smalltail too. she turned back to iceclaw with a firey glare.
"fine, you can get your throat ripped out by starlingstar himself."

Sandpaw
Sandpaw just flicked at glare at the Shadowclan tom for saying that to her. She was only an apprentice and she just said, "I don't take orders from Shadowclan flea bags that stink their nose into another clan's business." The words were sharp out of Sandpaw's mouth. She knew that he probably didn't hurt Gingerstep she had a wound that was far to big for even the Shadowclan flea bag to do so it must of been one of those monsters. Sandpaw watched as right after how easily Smalltail went up to the other warrior. She demanded him to leave and she had never seen her mentor like that before. Yes she had seen her angry but this was a whole new level and it really impressed Sandpaw on how tough her mentor really was.
The black she-cat then turned her and it was a completely different matter. It was like all the anger was gone and Sandpaw heard her order and was gone in a flash. She bounded up the hill running at full speed. She now thanked her mentor for doing all those sprinting drill the first few sunrises of her training. Having her get used to the land and how to move swiftly within it. She was getting tired though but she pushed on. Thats when she saw the edge of camp and she got a burst of energy that she thought that she didn't have. She flew into camp almost running into another warrior as she stopped and looked around.
Thats when the pale blue eyes landed on the form she was looking for Starlingstar. He was sitting outside of his den just watching the clan and their eyes locked it was like he knew that something was up. His tall form loomed over Sandpaw Thats when his question made her start speaking. She was out of breath though but the tom's yellow eyes clicked right away and he started moving before she was even finished with her last sentence.
She stood there for a few moments but thats when she heard her name be called and she was back on the move with Starlingstar.
Starlingstar
Starlingstar was sitting outside of his den watching the other warriors and their apprentices return from their training. He was watching to see how much his apprentices were bringing in for their catch. It was going to be a harsh winter and he knew that he wanted his best pairs of hunters out looking for food when the snow hit. But thats when an apprentice came flying it at a speed which caught Starlingstar's attention. He knew from all of his years that when a cat came flying to camp at that speed something was wrong.
He padded over to the young she-cat and said, "Whats going on Sandpaw?" He listened as the she-cat explained that Gingerstep was down by the Thunderpath and a Shadowclan warrior was refusing to leave the border and that Smalltail was there with both of them. He was already moving before she finished her last sentence and he called out. "Tigerpaw, Reddawn, and Mintfeather I need to speak with you now." The leader's voice rang out with clearness and urgency to the names he called.
Once the other cats joined him he said, "Mintfeather, I believe that Gingerstep has been hit my a twoleg monster I want you to take Tigerpaw and have him help you carry the supplies that you need. You come when you are ready to the Thunderpath." Then he turned to Reddawn and Sandpaw, "Now Reddawn, Sandpaw has informed me that there is a Shadowclan warrior lurking by the border for no apparent reason so I want you be alert and we will need your strength to help get Gingerstep back to camp."
He looked at his little team of apprentices and warriors and waited for their understanding.

Reddawn has only woken up minutes before Sandpaw raced into the camp, but before she did, Reddawn was grooming himself and about to dig into a small mouse. Though before he could take a bite, he heard a commotion coming from outside the den, the sound of paws hitting the ground hard and fast so he stood up quickly and faced the entrance to the camp. When he saw who raced in he flicked his ears and watched her run to Starlingstar while listening to see if anyone else was coming. When he hears nothing he lays back down with a yawn, ready to dig into his mouse. Once again though, he doesn't get that chance when his leader calls him over. As he gets up, he stares at the mouse with a hungry look before tossing it over into the pile and making his way over to Starlingstar in a run. Skidding to a halt beside Starlingstar, all sleep and hunger is forgotten right now. Alertly he looks between Starlingstar and Sandpaw, realizing that she had some urgent news that required her to race over like a hound was on her tail. He doesn't speak, knowing that the information will be told to them soon. Reddawn bristles hearing what happened to Gingerstep, though even more so when he hears that a Shadowclan is lurking around as well. Reddawn nods once quickly before replying. "Of course Starlingstar." Tags: Minteh Freshness @nekoyuno274 Kuwaki Edda Rose

Mintfeather Mintfeather's legs ached. Last night her nest somehow got wet and it had soaked into her limbs, making the to that had been broken ache and hurt even more than normal. So so was laying at the entrance to her den, her hurting legs stretched out at odd angles that looked uncomfortable but somehow was actually comfortable. For most of the day so far she had been watching the camp's activities. Coupled with her wet nest, she had woken up with a heaviness in her stomach. It was the feeling of something being wrong and all day she'd been looking for a sign from Starclan or someone coming into camp injured. Her stores were stocked up from her last outing for herbs, so she knew she was well equipped for anything, though she really hoped her gut feeling was wrong and everything would be fine today. The off-white she-cat had just stared to doze off, tired from a restless night last night and being extremely aware of everything today. when the sound of thundering pawsteps woke her. A ginger shape slid to a stop in camp and within moments, the familiar shape of Starlingstar was padding over to the sandy colored apprentice. Mintfeather had already struggled to her paws and was limping over when the tall black tom called her and two others over. Her throat tightened as the urgency to his voice reached her ears. Mintfeather picked up her pace until she was next to the others. "Mintfeather, I believe that Gingerstep has been hit my a twoleg monster I want you to take Tigerpaw and have him help you carry the supplies that you need. You come when you are ready to the Thunderpath." The heaviness in her stomach grew as she nodded and turned back to her den. She muttered quietly to herself as she hurried back to gather herbs. There were so many different types of injuries that could have befallen Gingerstep and any number of herbs could help. Mintfeather flicked her ear as she looked at her supplies before grabbing one of the woven baskets she had made. It resembled a bird's nest slightly but was lighter. The medicine she-cat started to grab herbs that would help her to stabilize several different injuries, as she wasn't sure which the ginger warrior had acquired. At least stabilizing the injuries would help until they could get the she-cat back to camp and into Mintfeather's den. The snow bengal she-cat wrapped bindweed around several sticks she had on hand and then started to drop cobwebs and a few other herbs into the "basket". Then she turned to Tigerpaw. "Tigerpaw, please carry the sticks. And make sure you don't break them. I'll carry the rest." Mintfeather carefully picked up the woven beech leaves that carried the other herbs, and headed out of her den, back towards where she had left the others. She prayed to Starclan that they weren't too late. Words || 506 Tagged || Yuno || Kuwaki || Edda Rose || rain

a low growl came from iceclaw, he restrained his limbs and temper in favour for waiting for starlingstar to give a proper report - he had found gingerstep, he was going to say what he saw whether this excuse for a warrior, too young to know proper protocol when it came to this sort of situation. he could feel the blood drip down his cheek from the minor wound, sandpaw vanishing whilst smalltail remained in front of him with her hackles raised.
--
he had been sat outside the apprentice den with a mouse in between his paws, dew claws holding on as he ripped and pulled at the tendons with vigour; his name was called and you could see his eyes flick up to starlingstar from his spot with his mouth wrapped around a small bone belonging to the mouse. the seriousness in the leaders eyes caused him to drop the bone his eyes going wide as his fur lifted slightly in anticipation.
"mintfeather, i believe that gingerstep has been hit by a twoleg monster, i want you to take tigerpaw and have him help you carry the supplies that you need. you come when you are ready to the thunderpath."
his body seemed to go number, his mentor was injured - potentially dead. twoleg monster wounds could be deadly, right? his mind was creaking with fear as he automatically followed mintfeather to her den.
"tigerpaw, please carry the sticks. and make sure you don't break them. I'll carry the rest."
his name brought him out of his thoughts and his eyes widened slightly before he leaped forward to grab the sticks and leave as soon as he could to help gingerstep. the quiet tom padded slightly ahead of mintfeather with anxious steps, his eyes flicked around the scene for sandpaw, hoping for his sister comfort in his time of stress. surely she was just as worried as he? though her couldn't see it in her eyes when she burst into camp, she looked confident and fearless, easily replaying the story with her words. he envied his sibling.

Sandpaw
Sandpaw heard her brother get called over as well. Reddawn and Mintfeather were next to Starlingstar in an instant which was good. She watched as Tigerpaw got nervous when he found out that his mentor was hurt. She felt bad for him, maybe she could convince Smalltail to let him train with her while Gignerstep was out of the picture. Hopefully the other warrior wasn't too injured. Sandpaw then turned back to Starlingstar who was making comments and Mintfeather was already off to her herbs getting ready to help Gingerstep in anyway. Sandpaw just hopped that she was fast enough to get the warrior the help she needed.
Thats when the voice of Reddawn broke her thoughts. He was ready to go. She heard Starlingstar's voice say, "Sandpaw when we get near the thunderpath you will have to lead us to them." The ginger she-cats head was spinning but she nodded knowing that she would do exactly what her leader wanted. She then watched as Tigerpaw moved to go help Mintfeather and she made a mental note to check in on him later.
Thats when Starlingstar took off at a fast pace. She could keep up with Smalltail no problem but the tall Windclan leader was a different story. She knew that he was old but she didn't know how fast he could actually move. She trotted just to keep up and thats when they moved through Windclan's territory with ease. Her paws were hurting but she kept moving on because Gingerstep needed her help. Thats then Starlingstar slowed down. The apprentice could smell the thunderpath and she saw the flick of the black toms tail and she pointed with her muzzle, "There over there." That when they were on the move again heading down to Thunderpath and Sandpaw's blue eyes saw Smalltail the Shadowclan warrior and Gingerstep still laying on the ground.
Starlingstar
Starlingstar was proud to see his warriors and apprentices respond so quickly and so respectful as well. He looked at Mintfeather as he saw her head to he den with Tigerpaw following her. He knew that Tigerpaw was the apprentice of Gingerstep so thats why he asked him to come with. The warrior might like to see a face and cat thats she is used to spending time with everyday. Though he was a bit worried on how the tom was gonna handle everything. But he didn't have time to worry about that he turned to Sandpaw and said, "Sandpaw when we get near the thunderpath you will have to lead us to them." Starlingstar watched as the ginger she-cat didn't say anything but just nodded and with that Starlingstar pushed out of camp with Reddawn and Sandpaw behind him.
He really hoped that Gingerstep was going to be okay, but he was almost more worried about Smalltail being left alone with a Shadowclan warrior. Smalltail was a great warrior but she is a spit fire not afraid to take on any challenge and he noticed more and more that Sandpaw was taking on that quality as well. But he didn't have to worry about that much. He was on the move his long legs moving easily over the grass. He felt like a young cat once again, it was time like this that he thanked Starclan for giving him his lives and the energy he needs to be a leader for his clan.
With the smell and sight of the Thunderpath Starlingstar slowed down. He came to a stop and looked at Sandpaw, the apprentice looked worn out and he knew she was and he would make sure that tomorrow she would have the day off but she responded and pointed the the direction they needed to go. The leader then headed out and what came into view was Gingerstep unmoving on the ground, Smalltail hackles raised, and a Shadowclan warrior he knew to be Iceclaw. One of the few cats left that he remembered from a time where he was Deputy and a warrior himself. He looked at Reddawn and said, "Do not attack but stay prepared." Then he said to Sandpaw "I want you to stay by Gingerstep until Mintfeather comes and you help her and Tigerpaw." He then padded up towards the group his head high and his eyes landed on Iceclaw.
Starlingstar smelt the blood right away and he knew that Smalltail probably had done that to the Shadowclan warrior. He just said to Smalltail, "Stand down Smalltail, I'll take it from here." He waited for the warrior to listen before he looked at Gingerstep. The wound on her shoulder was defiently monster because there was no sign on bite or teeth marks on her. He turned and looked back at Iceclaw, "State your business here Shadowclan warrior."

Reddawn shifts on his paws while he waits for the others to be ready to leave to go find Gingerstep and help her. He knows the Shadowclan cat probably didn't have anything to do with her getting hurt, but then again, one can never know for sure until you get there and see it for your own eyes. He flicks his tail and looks towards the camp entrance then to the others around him before landing on Sandpaw, knowing that she just ran that much back here and will once again have to run back there to get them there. Reddawn lets out a sigh when everyone was ready to go, ready to be on the move so when they start to take off, he goes, though holds back his speed so he stays with the others. He does need to know where to go exactly so he doesn't waste time searching. When they get close and Reddawn can smell the thunderpath as well as the border he itches to run forward, knowing the border is right there. He only does this when they are close enough together, then he takes off just a few tail lengths before the others get there so he can stand watch on the Shadowclan cat and the border as well as the thunderpath. He stands prepared, like Starlingstar said, only flicking his ears in acknowledgement of his leaders words. He wont attack first, only answer theirs. ******************* Nightfire pads through shadows of the trees, a squirrel dangling from her jaws near the thunderpath, since that's where the prey from other territories could cross. Plus it lets her make sure no one has crossed the border. It was when she was finishing up her hunt that she heard the commotion by the thunderpath and the smell of blood came to her. Making her way over silently, she placed the squirrel down and covered it, just a few tail lengths from where she is hidden by the bushes. Now she makes her way around to Iceclaw on silent paws, in an arch so she comes from behind him on Shadowclan land and not from the side. With many Windclan cats around and only one Shadowclan, one who was bleeding and didn't seem to put up a fight when he was attacked, Nightfire holds back a snarl at both Iceclaw for not defending himself and the Windclan cat that attacked her clan mate. Not that she is sentimental or friendly like that, but she will defend her clanmates. It seems as if Nightfire was the last to arrive, seeing the Windclan leader and the others make their way in. She sits down a tail length or so from Iceclaw, wrapping her tail around her paws, looking completely calm and bored with the situation, although her eyes are hard and cold, watching the Windclan cats carefully for any movement that will show them becoming aggressive. When the Windclan leader starts to demand Iceclaw to explain himself, Nightfire's eyes narrow slightly and the tip of her tail twitches in annoyance, no Windclan cat can command a Shadowclan cat. Mintfeather Mintfeather was sure that the sticks were sturdy enough they wouldn't break, but with this being Tigerpaw's mentor that is hurt, he might accidentally bite down on them too hard, which was why she warned him not the break them. Tigerpaw took the lead as they headed out of camp, which she supposed was better since she wouldn't be able to follow the scent trail left by the others with the herbs just under her nose. Mintfeather winced as she opened up her stride to a faster limping gait. She loved being a medicine cat but she cursed her legs as they didn't allow her to get places very quickly. Even with the pain in her legs, much more than the aching sensation she had before starting out, she pushed herself to go as quickly as she could. Every second counted. The spotted off-white she-cat was panting halfway there and almost completely out of breath when she and Tigerpaw finally reached the others. Breathing through beech leaves certainly didn't help anything either. Her pale green eyes took in everything at the scene even while she headed straight towards the still form of Gingerstep, a prayer like a silent mantra running through her head, hoping she wasn't too late. A new burst of speed helped her reach the sandy she-cat, even though her legs shook with the exertion. She would have to start doing more excersizes in case she ever needed to run to an injured cat again. Setting down the herbs next to Gingerstep, Mintfeather steadied her paws as she gave Gingerstep a quick glance over. There didn't seem to be any bleeding wounds, though she couldn't tell if the warrior was bleeding internally though. The medicine cat closed her eyes for a split second, hoping that wasn't the case, and then set to work. She started murmuring quietly to Gingerstep, even though it seemed she wasn't conscious, and lightly set her paws ontop of Gingerstep's pelt, slowly and carefully moving her paws along her body, checking everything. Once she was done, she let out a sigh and picked up two poppy seeds. Mintfeather placed them in the warrior's mouth and gently stroked Gingerstep's throat until she swallowed. It was enough to dull down the pain, but not enough to put her to sleep if she happened to be conscious. Mintfeather glanced up at the others, having blocked out everything being said until now. Her gaze went from Starlingstar to the Shadowclan warrior on their side of the thunderpath. She easily recognized him as Iceclaw and her gaze grew soft with sadness. It was no secret the tom had recently lost his apprentice and now he just saw another cat get hit. She wouldn't doubt it if he was having flashbacks to Coalpaw's death. Mintfeather shook out a paw and reached for the herbs she had brought with her as she spoke. "Everyone just calm down. I need help with this next part of stabilizing her incase I missed anything. Once that happens I need all of us to move farther away from the Thunderpath. I will not be having another cat get hit by a Monster. Not if I can help it." Her soft voice became stern with the last few sentences. "That means you too Iceclaw. I won't allow any cat to cross that Thunderpath until it is safe to cross. Windclan or Shadowclan. Which means I would like it if your questiosn could wait until we are able to move Gingerstep farther away from the Thunderpath so no one else will get hurt." She turned her stern gaze to everyone, but especially the tall black tom that was her leader. She had never been a cat to take no for an answer. Next, Mintfeather turned her gaze back to Starlingstar and Tigerpaw. "The good news is that it could have been worse. As far as I can tell right now, she has a broken shoulder and at least one cracked rib. The bad news is that I can't tell if there is anything more serious. Tigerpaw, Sandpaw, you two are young and strong. I'll be needing your help with stablizing her shoulder and back so we can carry her back to camp with minimal risk of her being hurt worse." The Snow Bengal she-cat was using her no-nonsense voice as she got right to work moving her herbs for better access as well as unraveling the bindweed from the sticks Tigerpaw had been carrying for her. Once that was done, Mintfeather started to show the two apprentices where to place the sticks on Gingerstep. Words || 790 Ooc || Sorry it took me so long to post a reply! iceclaw turned his cold amber gaze toward the dark leader his features calm and bodies relaxed though the wound on his face stung as he felt the blood slowly matting his fur. he watched the flood of felines from windclan the only gaze her bothered to meet was mintfeather with a respectful dip of her head. iceclaw may not be fond of the other clans but he found himself to be rather smitten with mintfeather, the medicine cat. she was sweet and although he rarely spoke to her; he respected her completely. "state your business here, shadowclan warrior." iceclaw narrowed his eyes at the cold words, he knew the leader knew his name. he was one of the senior warriors of shadowclan and clearly wasn't proving himself to be a thread and yet he threw a harsh glare his way which iceclaw was only to happy to return.
"well, i was walking to clear my head in my own territory - i heard the noise of a cat being hit and i raced over without thinking, you should understand that i don't do that without reason." he mewed slowly, his voice calm as he spoke even though he was wrecked with grief with the thought of coalpaw but he kept his head held high as he continued. "i recently lost my apprentice to a monster, so forgive me, i didn't want any other cat no matter their clan to share his fate." he narrowed his eyes with a firm nod of his head.
the snort by his side is what drew his attention as he turned his head to glare at the smaller cat that held an irritated expression. "oh yeah, sure you weren't the one to chase her onto the path?" she snapped and iceclaw rolled his eyes, she really was just searching for a reason to tear into his fur.
"oh yeah, and i just had to wait around to make sure you all knew of it," he spat back with a low hiss. "if you don't believe me you can come with me to see rowanstar and he'll tell you all about coalpaw; my reasons make sense even a cat like you can see that." he snapped before turning his gaze back to starlingstar.
"that means you too iceclaw. i won't allow any cat to cross that thunderpath until it is safe to cross. windclan or shadowclan. which means i would like it if your questions could wait until we are able to move gingerstep farther away from the thunderpath so no one else will get hurt." iceclaw nodded his head, waiting for the others to step back before he followed with tentatively placed paws, his eyes watching smalltail in case she turned to him with her fangs bared to share more scars. he watched, the young cat called tigerpaw with his eyes wide with fear. iceclaw could have sworn he could see his old body shaking beneath his fur with each step and he couldn't help but sympathize with him. the only difference was that he knew gingerstep would be fine; unlike coalpaw.
he was surprised when nightfire ended up at the edge of the border and he turned to glare at her with his usual gaze reserved for the warriors of shadowclan. "nightfire, don't get involved." he growled low in a warning tone. the she-cat had no reason to be there, he didn't need back up because he wasn't going to be attacked, not with starlingstar in charge. the tom may be grumpy but he wasn't an idiot, it was clear the only law iceclaw broke was crossing the border but he did it with good reason.
--
"stand down, smalltail, i'll take it from here." the she-cat lifted her lip in disgust as she watched the conversation play out before snapping.
"oh yeah, sure you weren't the one to chase her onto the path?" he voice sharp as she took a step forward to demonstrate the dominance she wanted iceclaw to be aware of. this wasn't his home, he couldn't feel in charge.
the she-cat was blinded by rage with each word he spoke until the calming voice of the medicine cat met her ears. she turned to gingerstep her eye catching sight of reddawn in the process who she dipped her head to before her eyes softened at the sight of gingersteps frail form and twisted bones.
"i'll help the apprentices with this, mintfeather; i think if i stay here longer i might go insane from rage." she mewed lowly to mintfeather before her eyes met nightfires. "oh look, theres more of them." she hissed before turning to the leader for orders.
--
tigerpaw was numb, he couldn't feel the grass and earth beneath his paws, his body trembled like an earthquake as he stared vacantly at gingerstep his wide green eyes filled with fear. his tail and body was still, his ears flat against his head until he heard mintfeather. "the good news is that it could have been worse. as far as i can tell right now she has a broken shoulder and at least one cracked rib. the bad news is that i can't tell if there is anything more serious. tigerpaw, sandpaw, you two are y oung and strong. i'll be needing your help with stabilizing her shoulder and back so we can carry her back to camp with minimal risk of her being hurt worse." the words seemed to mush together after the bad news in his mind; what if her organs were slowly failing and nobody could see it, nobody could help her. his fur lifted along his back in fear his eyes shutting as he felt his heart pounding, his chest restricting as he nodded his head sharply.
he moved silently, not hearing smalltails offer of aid. his eyes opened slowly and he padded toward gingerstep, he crouched by her side pressing his nose into the fur around her neck, careful to avoid the shoulder wound. he let her scent comfort him, surround him and calm his body. he felt his muscles relax and his chest loosen. "you'll be okay." he whispered softly before standing up with renewed confidence, turning to look at mintfeather with wavering self assurance.
"okay, what do we do, mintfeather?" his voice hardly shaking as he spoke. this would be his first time aiding the medicine cat.

Sandpaw
Sandpaw stayed back to watch as her mentor was still fired up and snapping. She just waited behind Reddawn until she heard the paw steps of more cats coming. She noticed that the leader ordered the Shadowclan warrior to state his business here and she could tell that the warrior didn't liked to be ordered around by the large black tom. But she knew that the warrior would answer because Starlingstar was a leader after all and well he would be the only one that could protect the shadowclan warrior from more claws to the face. Sandpaw turned around to see that Mintfeather moving stiffly over to where Gingerstep lay along with her bother Tigerpaw. She padded over to the tabby apprentice.
Pressing her pelt up next to his she could feel the worry that came off her brother. She just looked at him and gave him an encouraging smile because if something like this would happen to her mentor she would need him to do that for her. Though she believe that Smalltail would still be a spit fire even hurt. Thats when Mintfeather all ordered them to move away from the Thunderpath. She knew that the leader and the Shadowclan warrior would listen to the medicine cat it was the code. Sandpaw just watched as the medicine cat examined the warrior. Thats when the medicine cat ordered her and Tigerpaw to help out. Sandpaw just nodded to the silver she-cat and waited for more instructions.
Starlingstar
Starlingstar watched as Smalltail curled her lip and the large black tom decided that he would deal with her later. She had no business doing that when he ordered her. But he had to focus on the Shadowclan warrior. He could tell that the tom narrowed his eyes at him when he spoke but frankly Starlingstar didn't care. He was a leader and he would be respected as such. He was waiting for a response from the warrior when Mintfeather ordered everyone to step away from the Thuderpath. He just looked at the medicine cat and dipped his head before waiting for everyone else to move away taking up the rear. When they got a good distance the Windclan leader looked back at the Shadowclan border and across the Thunderpath was another warrior. He just glared at the warrior as a warning to not venture to Windclan's territory. He already had Smalltail acting out. He stopped and turned back to Iceclaw who would explain himself.
He looked at the warrior and listened to his words. Thats when before he got to say anything to the shadowclan tom Smalltail lashed out. Starlingstar just growled and snapped at Smalltail, "THAT'S ENOUGH SMALLTAIL!" He was going to have a chat with Smalltail when he got back to camp. She needed to learn about keeping her mouth shut when told. He just then looked back at Iceclaw who already had replied to the small warrior. Starlingstar said, "Iceclaw, I appreciate you coming and checking on our warrior. Now your assistance is no longer needed." He just looked over at Mintfeather and the other warriors. "Follow Mintfeather's orders and take Gingerstep back to camp."
Thats when Starlingstar turned back to Iceclaw, "I will escort you back to the Thunderpath and make sure you get across and back into your territory safely." He flicked his tail and waited for the Shadowclan warrior to head back towards the Thunderpath. Starlingstar was a warrior and a deputy when this warrior was growing up. He knew Iceclaw's reputation and also knew that the warrior was very loyal to Shadowclan and the warrior code. The tom would not cross the Windclan border again. He stopped near the Thunderpath. Then said to Iceclaw, "I am sorry to hear about your apprentice Iceclaw." Then the leader said, "I need you to send a message to Rowanstar for me." Then Starlingstar waited for the tom to be ready for the message then spoke, "Too many cats have passed or almost passed due to the Thunderpath. We need to make sure both of our clans know the danger of these monsters." Then Starlingstar said, "You must head back to your own territory now Iceclaw."

Reddawn stands near the border and near the others while Gingerstep is being tended to. His gaze flicks to Smalltail and her aggressive stance against the Shadowclan warrior over their border. He understands why the Shadowclan warrior was over the boundary line, but still, he did break the code. Reddawn goes to stand between Smalltail and Mintfeather as he sees another Shadowclan warrior, though this one is on the correct side of the boundary line. With Mintfeather talking about moving Gingerstep after making sure the Thunderpath is safe, Reddawn lifts his head and looks down each side of the Thunderpath, feeling nothing on his paws. He looks back towards Iceclaw when he begins to speak and explain why he was over the border to glance at Smalltail when she decides to give her two cents, though back to Iceclaw when Starlingstar snaps at Smalltail. To him, secretly, he thinks that talk is over due. ******************************************** Nightfire watches from the shadows on the Shadowclan border, her eyes on the Windclan medicine cat, Mintfeather as she works on the fallen Windclan cat. To be honest, she wouldn't have gone across the border to help the other clan cat, she might have watched to see if someone was coming or to see if another monster came by on the Thunderpath, but she wouldn't have gone over to help. Listening to Iceclaw talk about why he did cross the border, she understands but then again she also doesn't know how he could help another clan cat before talking to Rowanstar about it first. Sure he wasn't the most talkative or friendly of cats, like her, but still. One should be loyal to their clan, not anothers. When Iceclaw growls at her to not get involved, all Nightfire does is flick the very tip of her tail in response. She usually would have snarled and bared her teeth at someone who tried to tell her what to do, but there was another clan involved and she didn't feel like showing anything to them. No Nightfire stayed unmoving from her spot, though her eyes stay on Smalltail the most seeing how she is most likely to start a fight. As Starlingstar tells them that they need to give Rowanstar a message, Nightfire almost lets out a icy growl at him. Who does he think he is ordering them around? He is not Shadowclan leader nor is he blood, therefore he should not be giving out orders to them. To be honest though, his words are meaningless. All cats know be careful around the Thunderpath unless they are an apprentice who is learning or a warrior who was stupid enough not to see where they are on a hunt or patrol. If Nightfire was more vocal, she would say this, but no, she likes her silence. Tags: Minteh Freshness Edda Rose Kuwaki Yuno

Mintfeather Mintfeather had still been working on Gingerstep while the others were talking. She had carefully rolled one of the two longer sticks underneath the ginger she-cat and then placed the second one on her side, close to her spine. They reached from Gingerstep's neck to the base of her tail. She was glad Smalltail would be helping her as well as the apprentices. It wouldn't do anyone any good if the young warrior started a fight a fight with Iceclaw. "Smalltail and Sandpaw, help me ease some of the bindweed under Gingerstep. We are going to need three pieces under her if this is going to work. One before her hind legs, one after her front legs and one at her neck." Once they were able to get that done, Mintfeather bound the sticks to Gingerstep. It would help to keep her spine from moving in case she'd broken her back. "Alright, Tigerpaw, I'm going to need you to hold these last two sticks on either side of Gingerstep's leg so I can bind it. The outside one should be higher than the inside one so it sits more on her shoulder." When she was happy with the placements of the sticks, she started to bind them to Gingerstep's leg. Mintfeather was still worried about any internal injuries that she might have missed but she had a feeling that Gingerstep would end up alright. With all of the binding done, Mintfeather glanced up at the cats around her. "Reddawn and Smalltail, I'll need you two to carry Gingerstep back to camp. Make sure to be careful and not jostle her around too much. Tigerpaw and Sandpaw, please walk alongside and steady Gingerstep as needed. Take her to my den." With that, she watched her clanmates for a moment longer but knew the ginger warrior would be in good paws until they got back to camp. With a slight nod of her head, she turned to pad over to Starlingstar and Iceclaw. Her limp was extremely noticeable by now. While the exercise had helped to loosen the tight muscles, her legs still hurt from how hard she had pushed herself to getting here. Mintfeather came into ear shot of them just as Starlingstar told Iceclaw a message to give to Rowanstar. "Wait a moment Iceclaw." She mrowed as she came up to them. "I just wanted to say thank you for helping Gingerstep. If you weren't there to help I shudder at what might have become of her if another monster had come by. And I wanted to say I was sorry to hear about what had happened to Coalpaw. I wish there could have been something I could have done." She mewed sadly before sighing. "Make sure Froststorm takes a look at those scratches. And tell her I look forward to seeing her at the next half-moon." She touched her tail tip to his shoulder and dipped her head to the older warrior. "Cross safely Iceclaw. May Starclan keep you safe on your way back to your camp." She gave him one last smile before turned around and following her clanmates back towards their camp.
