name: Slatekit - Slatepaw - Slatecall
gender: male
age: 18 moons
clan: Shadowclan
position: warrior
short description: grey tabby with black markings and light green eyes.
appearance:
Body || Slatecall is muscular underneath his pelt but he isn't burly or stocky. He is medium in size, a bit on the small side for a tom though. His tail is shorter than normal and he has medium thickness of fur. His paws are large and strong, his claws are sharp and deadly, and his shoulders are muscular. You can tell how strong he is when he walks. Slatecall has a scar running from above his right eye, down next to his eye, and ends at the bottom of his jaw. His left ear has a chip missing from it near the top from the same battle as when he got the scar on his face.
Coloring || Slatecall is a grey tabby with black markings. Those markings consist of stripes and spots. He has a black stripe running down the center of his back, on his tail, cheeks, forehead, neck, throat, chest, legs, and paws. Some spots run into one another towards his belly so they sort of look like stripes. He has all kinds of spots. He has large outlined black spots with dark grey within them, Medium sized black spots, and small almost speckle like spots. The large and medium spots are on his back and sides. Some medium sized spots are on the base of his tail and legs too. His smaller spots are on his legs, shoulders, muzzle, and paws. He has white on his muzzle and cream on his chest, belly, and around his eyes. There is also slight brown tints to his fur on his ears, around his eyes, and on his paws, and sort of reddish brown around his muzzle. His paw pads and nose are a color between red and liver and there is dark grey on the bridge of his nose right above his nose. His whiskers above his eyes are grey and his whiskers on his muzzle are all white.
Eyes || Slatecall's eyes are actually a light green. The tops of his eyes have a pale blue tint to them and the bottoms have a pale yellow tint to them. It is extremely noticeable head on but from the side it mostly just looks light green. (reference first pic)
personality:
~quiet~
Slatecall has become like his two mentors, quiet and watchful. He watches the going ons of the clan. When he does speak, it is when someone asks his opinion on a certain subject. He is pretty smart and thoughtful as well, which makes his answers something you would normally want to listen to. Slatecall would rather listen to conversations rather than partake in them.
~stoic~
Ever since his mentor's death, Slatecall has stopped showing emotion to others, even his family. He doesn't complain about anything, even if he gets chosen for an apprentice's duty when there isn't enough apprentices in camp to do it. In battle, Slatecall keeps his face straight so he doesn't flinch when he gets hurt. He doesn't want to loose another clanmate or friend so he thinks if he flinches, then it wastes precious seconds where he could be finishing the fight and helping someone else. The only time he really lets emotion show is when he is watching kits and when he is with the elders of the clan. His gaze and face softens. He knows that kits keep the clan going and they will make the clan strong, so he always tries to make sure that the kits are healthy and comfortable, along with the queens since they are needed to bring kits into the clan. His second mentor retired into the elders den right after Slatecall became a warrior. Slatecall always goes to see the old tom. Yellowtail is probably the only cat in the clan he will have a lengthy conversation with. Slatecall also likes listening to any other elders that are in Shadowclan.
~loyal~
Slatecall is loyal above everything else. He is loyal to his clan and the warrior code but he is especially loyal to his family and friends. He would do anything for them if they just asked. He doesn't have many friends because of how stony his expression is and how scary he looks with the scar next to his eye, but when he does get one, he is loyal to a fault. Like I said before, he would do anything, for his family and friends if they just asked him. Even if he doesn't think it will turn out well or it's not moral, he will still do it. It's one of his major faults.
~ferocious~
Slatecall can be extremely ferocious. He normally is in battle. His face will harden and he will attack at full force, not showing fear or pain. He doesn't want to loose anyone else so he thinks he has to do this. It sometimes unnerves other cats when they see him fighting because even if he gets a horrible wound, it's like he doesn't even notice. Being in battle is really the only time he is ever ferocious. For now. That may change if something happens, like he falls in love, or someone else close to him dies. He may be ferocious in battle, but he isn't ruthless. He wouldn't start a fight himself. He would only join in to save his clanmates.
history:
Emberheart and Stonecall were inseparable, even from their days in the nursery seeing as how their mothers kitted three days apart. They had a joint warriors ceremony and it was obvious to every cat that these two would become mates. Not a single cat was surprised when Emberheart announced her pregnancy. Stonecall spent most of his free time in the nursery with his mate, always bringing her prey and making sure she was comfortable. The first litter was comprised of three kits, two toms and one she-cat. Slatekit was the first born and was quite strong, though not as strong as his brother, Foxkit, who was born second and the strongest of the three. With this being Emberheart's first litter, of course there was one weak kit. That kit was Cinderkit, their sister and the last to be born. She was the runt and much weaker than her two brothers.
Like most kits, the three caused so much trouble for Shadowclan. Cinderkit, despite being the smallest and weakest, was the leader of the trio, Slatekit a close second. Foxkit had tended to be more reserved but the other two would often drag him into things. The clan was happy when the young cats became apprentices. They hopes the kits' energy would be put into working toward helping the clan. Slatepaw was given the mentor Quailfang, an older mentor that was close to retiring. Quailfang was a quiet tom. He was hard when he needed to push the young tom but would also praise Slatepaw when he did something correctly. Slatepaw calmed down under the mentoring of Quailfang and really started to learn about the warrior code, the clans, how to hunt and fight, and all sorts of things. With how old Quailfang was and all he had seen, he was able to teach Slatepaw a lot of life lessons. Slatepaw spent most of his time with his mentor, always trying to better himself so the old tom could praise him.
After only a few moons of being an apprentice, Slatepaw's mother, Emberheart, moved back into the nursery. Slatepaw had mixed feelings about the upcoming kits but Quailfang helped him to understand that kits were always a happy thing. They made the clan stronger and helped the clan to keep going. Slatepaw took the old tom's words to heart and pushed away all feelings other than happiness for his mother's second litter. He always tried to visit the nursery at least once ever day, even if he was almost asleep on his paws. He was excited when the kits came. He now had four younger siblings; Shinekit, Ashkit, Bearkit, and Silverkit.
During the same moon that his younger siblings were born, when he was 11 moons old, Slatepaw was on a border patrol with his mentor and another cat. A group of rogues attacked them. Two of them jumped on the other cat in the patrol and one faced off with Quailfang. Slatepaw went to help his mentor when another cat jumped in his way, spitting and hissing. Quailfang told his apprentice to go get help, but Slatepaw wanted to help his mentor so he made the cat attacking him back off before yowling as loudly as he could. That cat came back at him and slashed at his face. The enemy's claws caught the fur above her brow and ripped down, barely missing his eye, but went all the way down to the bottom of his jaw. This didn't stop Slatepaw. If anything, it made him fight harder. He attacked the cat head on and somehow got it on it's side, his claws scratching furiously at the cat's unprotected sides and belly. Finally, the cat wiggled out from under him and raced away. Slatepaw sucked in a breath and again yowled as loudly as he could, calling the clan. He turned back to help his mentor and saw two cats attacking something in the spot that Quailfang had been in. Slatepaw jumped on them, knowing them away and sent one off with a torn off ear and a gash from it's neck to it's haunches on it's side. The other one, backed off, noticing that it was outnumbered now since the other warrior had taken care of one cat, so there was only the two enemies left. He snarled at Slatepaw before turning tail and running with the other rogue. Slatepaw let the other Shadowclan warrior make sure the non-clan cats were gone while he turned back to his mentor. The old tom wasn't moving from his spot on the ground, no matter how much the young tom nudged him and tried to help him up, even calling to him didn't work. Other Shadowclan cats got there and assessed the scene before one calmly shouldered Slatepaw away from the dead warrior.
Slatepaw grieved for his mentor while he was in the medicine cat's den for a few days. A lot of cats came by to congratulate him on his first battle. Some even said he might become a warrior early. It was only when his family came to visit him and he noticed them that he snapped out of it. He went to see the kits a couple of times though they still weren't old enough to open their eyes. Some cats wanted him to made into a warrior right away but others thought he should have the regular test first. After a couple of days it was decided. He received another mentor, one who offered to finish training the young tom before he went to the elders den. It was the least he could do for his best friend, Quailfang. This tom's name was Yellowtail. During training one day, the old tom told Slatepaw if he had the choice, would he like to be made into a warrior early or continue his training. Slatepaw took a moment before saying that he would rather be made into a warrior alongside his siblings.
And so he did. He got his name,Slatecall, from how his yowl from that battle with the rogues could be heard all the way in camp. The young tom became quiet and watchful like his two mentors. The scar next to his eye makes him look menacing, especially when he shows no emotion. Slatecall doesn't even show emotion with his family anymore, unless it was when his younger siblings were playing as kits. Then his gaze would soften. He doesn't talk much but he is quite thoughtful and smart. He visits Yellowtail, who retired right after Slatecall was made into a warrior. He also visits the other elders and makes sure they are being well taken care of. He's not one to get into a fight easily but if the need calls for it, he will be ferocious, not wanting to loose another clanmate or friend.
