Quickriver Quickriver knew the second the words left her mouth that she shouldn't speak to her deputy that way, but Starclan! She just couldn't help it with how mouse brained she was being. The ginger and white she-cat looked like she was about to snap at her or maybe smack her over the head, but she didn't, which surprised Quickriver. "i know he's a mousebrain, but... what did i miss?" Sometimes she forgot Zinnianose wasn't the all knowing anymore. Quickriver shook her head, not wanting to talk about it. She didn't even want to give the brat of a tom the satisfaction of being in her thoughts, whether they were good or bad thoughts. Even if she was about to speak, her words would have been halted at the scent of mouse wafted to her. Her head whipped around and her sharp bronzed eyes scoured the area in front of them until movement caught her attention. It was digging at the base of a bush before moving onto a large patch of tall grass. It was probably looking for seeds and nuts or whatever so it wouldn't have to leave it's nest during leafbare. And surprisingly, it was still quite plump for the season. Quickriver froze and then slowly lowered herself to the ground. She slowly moved towards the bush the mouse had left as she knew her pelt would blend in with the branches. Her belly was close to the ground as she stopped in the shadow of the brush, letting her golden brown tabby fur meld into the background, her eyes and ears focused on her prey. The muscles in her hind legs bunched as she got ready, waiting for the perfect moment to leap. And she had it when the mouse went back to digging at the base of the grass. The small warrior tensed and then released, her front paws stretching out before her. The mouse spooked at the sound but Quickriver was already landing on it as it tried to run away. With a quick nip to the base of the skull, she killed it. She lifted her head, the mouse dangling from her jaws as she glanced back at Zinnianose, only now remembering the other she-cat had been standing there with her. She hoped she hadn't just stolen her hunt, but the other she-cat seemed to be in the same place. At least the mouse would fill someone's belly. The tabby she-cat set the mouse on the ground and lifted her gaze to Zinnianose. "I'd like to hunt some more, see if I can't get at least one more piece of prey before heading back. If you want to continue with me, you are welcome to. If not you can head back and I'll see you back at camp." She tried to soften her words and speak more respectfully than she had been so far. Her tone still sounded slightly cross but it wasn't as bad as what she'd been using previously. She wasn't used to cats sticking around her when given the choice to leave. riverclan ❀ zinnianose ❀ deputy she twitched her whiskers, watching as quickriver shook her head in response to zinnianose's question. she shrugged it off, figuring it was probably something that the golden-brown tabby wouldn't want to go around repeating. then, she focused on quickriver as the she-cat caught scent of the mouse. a small smile quirked at her maw, satisfaction playing in. i'll let her catch it, and then she won't be such a stick in the mud, maybe.
her golden gaze remained on the other warrior as she made her move to catch the mouse, watching her stalk, then pounce, landing on the mouse in a nick of time, just quick enough to deliver the fatal bite to its neck. when quickriver looked back to her, she cocked her head, wondering if the she-cat was satisfied.
apparently not.
"i'd like to hunt some more, see if i can't get at least one more piece of prey before heading back. if you want to continue with me, you are welcome to. if not you can head back and i'll see you back at camp."
zinnianose inwardly groaned, but in reality, not a sound left her. she simply nodded dutifully, and pointed her ears elsewhere. she pondered briefly if there was anything else in the area, or if that was all that they would find - she decided not.
"you've done enough," she said after a long pause, a little more confident in placing a command. "come back to camp with me, quickriver. i don't know if i can make it back on my own."

Quickriver "You've done enough." Quckriver flicked her ears back at the command, not liking it. At all. She opened her maw to retort, eyes narrowing, but was cut off. "come back to camp with me, quickriver. i don't know if i can make it back on my own." She snapped her jaws shut, face unhappy, and her tail lashed for a few seconds before glancing back behind her as if she could see all the prey that wouldn't stay out for much longer before deciding to hibernate for leafbare. With a sigh, she turned back to the other warrior, still clearly unhappy, but resigned to do as her deputy says. "Fine." She tried to keep the growl out of her voice and for the most part succeeded. She dropped her head to pick up the mouse and then padded over to the taller she-cat. Quickriver dipped her head, motioning for Zinnianose to go first. She'd stick by her in case the other warrior needed her help, but she doubted her small frame would be of much use if Zinnianose ended up collapsing or even just needing someone to lean on. Words || 194 Ooc || Small post. Sorry. ;_; Did you want their entrance to be when Stormclaw jumps on Zinnianose? If so, I'll post Quick in there once we are done with this one. Like maybe Quick let Zinnia go in ahead so it didn't seem she was weak with leaning on Quick? Or something like that? Tagged || iero

riverclan ❀ zinnianose ❀ deputy the she-cat could see the protest forming on quickriver's face, and later in her body, watching her tail lash. she inwardly rolled her eyes, but said nothing. "fine." quickriver had said, and she only twitched her whiskers. get used to having a functional deputy again, she thought at the golden-brown tabby, almost with a hint of satisfaction. almost.
quickriver came to her side, but she motioned for her to go first. zinnianose shrugged, then started walking, her legs a little shaky as she started padding back to camp. it would be a far trip, farther than she would have liked, but hey - quickriver wanted to hunt. it was true, that she didn't think she would make it back alright by herself, what with how her legs felt. her mind flashed back to the wound on her flank, and shook her head, dismissing it as nothing important. nothing to be addressed to the medicine cat anytime soon.
with that in mind, zinnianose tried to pick up the pace. if she made it back to camp sooner, she could try her paw at narrowly avoiding sharpberry for the next couple of sunrises. her walk was more of a stumble, but nonetheless, they were making their way back to camp.

Quickriver The deputy looked smug. A little too smug for Quickriver's liking. She'd like nothing more than to wipe that look off of the ginger she-cat's face. But she didn't. After all Zinnianose was her deputy. She watched at the other she-cat shrugged and padded forward on shaky legs. It was then that Quickriver realized just how weak their deputy was at the moment. She didn't believe for one moment that Zinnianose was faking it. Not with that appearance. Quickriver quickly padded forward, staying just behind the other feline's shoulder, but allowing their fur to brush every once in a while to let her know she was still there for her. Every time Zinnianose stumbled, Quickriver pressed her shoulder against the other cat to steady her. She actually felt concern for their long lost deputy. The golden brown tabby kept her eye on the ginger and white she-cat, making sure she wasn't about to fall over dead. It took a long time before they actually got close to the camp. Zinnianose looked about the same as when they had set out for camp, which meant she probably wasn't going to fall over and give up within such proximity of a multitude of other cats, so Quickriver dropped her pace, letting the other warrior she-cat pad ahead of her. Riverclan didn't need to see a weak deputy at this time and she would look weak if Quickriver padded into camp looking like she was holding Zinnianose up. The tabby warrior stopped for a few moments before starting forward again, giving them a good enough distance between each other. Words || 279 Ooc || So end this one right here?
